2013 Will be the year I hike all the way from Georgia to Maine. A lot of the tru hikers I became friends with went all the way this year. So now I have hooked up with some great women that have the same liked mind of mine. Can’t wait.
IT HAS BEGUN!!! The scrolls and maps have been brought forth, the time has been set and the die has been cast! My beloved and I shall begin our quest to find the mystical and magical Mt. Katahdin! LOL! My wife and I will be NOBO hobos as of April 1st! Our preperations include the following materials which have been a great help so far. We watched the National Geographic documentary on the trail and bought the DVD Appalachian Impressions by Flagler Films. I also bought the following books to help plan..
1. How to Hike the A.T. – The Nitty-Gritty details of a long-distance trek by Michelle Ray.
2. Appalachian Trail Thru-Hikers Companion 2012 by The Appalachian Long Distance Hikers Association
3. Appalachian Trail Data Book 2012 by Daniel Chazin
4. Step by Step – The Appalachianb Trail Conservancy
5. Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike Planner – The Appalachianb Trail Conservancy
6. My Own Hike – A Woman’s Journey on the Appalachian Trail by Nancy Shepherd
I bought the last book for my wife to give her a woman’s perspective on the trail and really enjoyed it myself. It has a lot of details about the trail which are very interesting.
We are very excited and are looking forward to meeting as many of the class of 2013 as we aree able.
Good Morning, I am a “solid Hiker Wana-be”, but have 2 jobs and 3 kids in college and am unable to do this amazing hike at this time in my life. However, I am reading several books and am very intersted in following hikers thru their 2013 experience, with the anticipation that I will one day hike thru from Georgia to Maine as you plan to do this year. I would love to follow you and assist as possible from my very entrenches position in life. Thanks, Please advise how best to follow you it at all possible. Thanks, Tom Waggoner, TWaggoner@IUHealth.org.
