Backpacking Advice from Joe

I’ve been thinking, and realized today that I haven’t posted anything about lessons or skills that I have acquired since I’ve been on the trail. I just wanted to share two essential tips that every backcountry hiker should follow:

Smilin’ Joe’s backcountry rule #4:

Wear bright colors so you won’t get shot

Smilin’ Joe’s backcountry rule #5

Always, ALWAYS know the numbers to nearby pizza places that deliver to state parks

Following these two simple rules will make yourbackcountry trek more safe and enjoyable. :P

  1. It was nice to run into you on this past weekend on the trail. Up on Chimney Rock, my wife and I talked to you as our kids were running around on the rocks. Hope that the half gallon challenge went well, and that you chose Turkey Hill Ice Cream. Good Luck in your journey north. May Pennsylvania be a fond memory of yours so the next time someone ask you what your favorite place is/was, you can tell them Pennsylvania.
